Winery Erben von Beulwitz
Many years of experience have taught us: The beginning of every good wine lies in the vineyard.
A complex interaction of location, soil and micro-climate lays the foundation for us to build on with diligent cultivation of the vineyard. Whether it’s management of the soil and foliage, application of fertilisers, or special protection of the vines , we always aim to work with natural methods in order to obtain healthy and fully ripe grapes.
We are proud of the fact that mulching with spontaneously grown wild herbs or green cover seeded by us and the targeted application of bark mulches and farmyard manure has enabled us to practise organic viticulture for years. If we feel that yields could become too high, we are not afraid to carry out a “green harvest”. By reducing bunches or parts of bunches before the actual harvest takes place we do our best to achieve optimum quality. We aim to harvest late and during dry weather and pick in several stages for a strict differentiation of fruit in order to achieve the highest quality possible in any respective vintage. All this is happening in the vineyard.
For more than 200 years the vineyards of the Ruwer have produced Riesling wines of world renown. Since 1982 the wine estate Erben von Belwitz has been owned by the Weis family, who are totally dedicated to continuing a great tradition. A particular sensitivity for the character of the vintage, experience and the courage to sacrifice quantity at the expense of quality enable the wine estate Erben von Beulwitz to produce first class Riesling wines year in, year out.
