The former Prussian estate from 1898 with its chateau character, sits high above the Saar and is the first winery in the Saar valley (part of the wine-growing region Mosel in Germany). From 1898 to 1904, the Baron von Schorlemer zu Lieser and Maria Puricelli built the estate along with the cellar in neo-renaissance style. The couple's home was Schloss Lieser in the Moselle valley. In March 1898, the first vine was planted by Mrs. Puricelli herself. In the following years, the parcels in the Serriger Würtzberg and Herrenberg vineyards were diligently expanded. Back then and today, the two large sites are owned by the winery alone.
Today the siblings Felix and Annalena Heimes run the family business together with their parents. Felix (25 years old) studied in Geisenheim and is the head wine maker. Annalena has been at Felix’s side since summer 2020. The entire estate has 32 hectares of park, 12 hectares of steep slate slopes, meadows, forest and courtyard and everything is listed/protected. The most important vineyard sites are the Ockfener Bockstein, Serriger Herrenberg & Serriger Würtzberg. All of them are south-/south-west facing steep slate slopes. The oldest Burgundy vines in the Saar valley can even be found in Serriger Herrenberg and Serriger Würtzberg.
The work in the vineyards is done 100% by hand – same applies for harvest. After the grapes run over a sorting table, Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir and Auxerrois grapes are gently pressed & then fermented spontaneously with ambient yeast in the two-story vaulted cellar. Traditional German oak „Doppelstück Fässer“ and stainless-steel tanks are used for vinification. The wine can mature on lees for many months before bottling in Spring of the following year.
Most of the wines come from individual parcels within the Serriger Würtzberg & Serriger Herrenberg – the parcels were drawn in a map from 1904 that is still used today. The parcels are vinified separately to show the unique character of it and how it influences the wine.
Since 2020 the winery is Fair'n Green certified.
