Bernkasteler Ring & Friends: Innovations at this year's auction
Nothing is more constant than change and even if it is our fundamental concern to maintain a traditional wine culture, we always want to move with the times.
For us, time stands for collegiality and the preservation of good friendships - within the ring but also beyond. Therefore, we have decided to establish the format Bernkasteler Ring & Friends this year. Two further innovations make this year's auction a highlight in our history:
1. new auctioneer: Sonja Christ-Brendemühl
This year, for the first time in the Ring's history, the auction will be led by a woman: Dr Sonja Christ-Brendemühl is already known to many wine enthusiasts: the Mosel native was German Wine Queen in 2009. Since then, she has been constantly on the road in the wine world as a moderator, speaker and wine expert. Her main job is as a professor for public relations at the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences. "I am very much looking forward to the new task as auctioneer for the Bernkasteler Ring and will present the wines in the best possible way in order to achieve good bids in the sense of the winegrowers and to express appreciation for their work and the quality of their wines."
2. new grape variety: Pinot Noir can be purchased at auction
After the introduction of a Spätburgunder GG, it is no longer far to dare to take the step and now also open the auction for special red wines from the well-known red wine grape variety. The members of the Bernkasteler Ring are pioneers in producing high-quality Pinot Noirs on the Mosel. This comparatively innovative decision also paves the way for the third innovation:
3. Bernkasteler Ring & Friends: Four friend- wineries auction in Trier
A new concept for the auction has emerged from good friendships between the Ring wineries and top producers from other wine-growing regions. The Ring has invited four wineries to sell special wines at the traditional auction. The following wineries will offer exclusive wines at the auction from 2023 onwards:
Weingut Bertram-Baltes aus Dernau/ Ahr
AdamsWein aus Ingelheim/ Rheinhessen
Weingut Chat Sauvage aus Geisenheim/ Rheingau
Weingut Jakob Schneider aus Niederhausen/ Nahe.
Every year, the members of the Bernkasteler Ring auction selected wines at the Riesling Auction in Trier. Wine enthusiasts from all over the world take advantage of this unique opportunity to purchase top wines from the current vintage as well as selected wines and rarities at the auction. The auction is handled by recognised commission agents. This year it will take place on 16.09.2023.
