This traditional wine estate, which has been in the family for eight generations, was taken over by Petra Matheus in 1991. In 1992 she married her husband Jörg, who has been responsible as winemaker since that time. All varities and vineyards are vinified separately, controlled fermentation is carried out in stainless steel tanks to produce Riesling wines with a particular emphasis on fruit. Because every wine can only be as good as the “raw material” it’s made from, the Matheus family carries out a stringent selection of grapes. The young couple does not just make Riesling, however: We also have our own distillery.

Jörg and Petra Matheus have found their own style of Piesporter Riesling: open, radiant and full of character. It is difficult not to like these wines, whether they are dry or have some natural residual sugar – they are truly drops of gold thriving at this estate!
