We at the wine estate Bauer are vintners of the good old traditional kind. Our family and our ancestors have been working the vineyards and vines for well over 300 years in the area of Mülheim on the Mid-Mosel. Today we manage eight hectares of vineyard. We own holdings in the world famous Brauneberger Juffer, Mülheimer Sonnenlay, Mülheimer and Veldenzer Herrenberg as well as the Veldenzer Kirchberg.
Our royal child is Riesling, which truly excels on the steep slopes of Mosel slate with an unbelievable diversity and finesse. For us competence with regard to wine means to unite tradition and innovation in vineyard cultivation and cellar management in one harmonious concept. Our motto in the vineyards is “quality before quantity”. A careful first cut of the vines and targeted thinning of green grapes in late summer supply high-quality grapes for the autumn. Late, selective picking by hand from October to November provides the X Factor.
In the cellar, the primary objective is to preserve what nature has provided in the vineyards, true to our guiding principle "as little as possible and as much as necessary" - because great wines should be disturbed as little as possible during vinification. Try the results for yourselves!
Eichelmann 2013
„Maison Elise and the Old Vines Riesling regularly compete for top spot in the dry segment. Jörg Bauer also produces small amounts of juicy and accessible sweet wines.“
Highlights
Enjoy the wonderful view during our evening tastings at the Elisenhäuschen: Located high above the site of the Elisenberg a truly magnificent panorama of vineyards unfolds between sky and earth. Shortly after the sunset, in the blue hour, the first stars at the firmament and our wines in their glasses try to out-sparkle each other. You are welcome to book your tasting at the Elisenhäuschen with us.
For our vineyard lodge at the Elisenberg we were awarded the Denkmalpreis (monument award) of 2012.
