Our wine estate has been going for many generations, and we are dedicated to the ecological production of wines and sparkling wines of high quality. Gentle processing of grapes and must are prerequisites for the quality of the individual wines. Winemaker Alfred Schömann takes great care with the old vines on the sites of Pölicher Held and Mehringer Blattenberg to fulfil their promise of great substance and fine aromas. In the cellar we use modern stainless steel vessels as well as traditional wooden casks. Fermentation and further vinification are carried out with minimal intervention according to the motto “as little as possible, as much as necessary.”
In addition to our range of still wines we also produce sparkling wines from our own Riesling grapes (Riesling-Gutssekte) using the classic method of 2nd fermentation in bottle, as well as distilling our own fine grape spirit.
Gault Millau 2013
„Following three excellent vintages, in 2010 Alfred Schömann impresses particularly with his Spätlesen. From the 2011 vintage we have tasted sleek and animating Rieslings which provide great drinking pleasure. The wines we liked most were the fruity Spätlesen and Auslesen from the Blattenberg.“
Today’s estate is housed in the former lodge of the Abbey Maximin of Trier, built in 1578. Cellar visits and wine walks with picnic and wine tasting are available by prior arrangement. In April you can participate in a wine walk weekend, and on the 2nd weekend of August we hold our estate wine festival.
We also recommend a river trip on a replica of the original Roman river boat “Stella Noviomagi”.
