The steep slopes of the Mosel River have artistically inspired poets such as Johann

  o
Wolfgang von Goethe and painters such as William Turner. This is not surprising. The slopes of   o
the vineyards are up to 400 million years old, up to 400 meters high and at some locations have more than a 60 degree   o
incline. In fact, the steepest vineyards in Europe are found on the meanders of the Mosel River. The Riesling grape has   o
been grown on these steep slopes for hundreds of years, and, as the Mosel "Queen of Grapes", the Riesling finds    o
optimal conditions there. The inclines of the slopes guarantee a perfect angle to the incoming rays of the sun, and the   o
temperature and distribution of precipitation are ideal for growth.   o
